The Forgiveness of Ta’if: A Story of Love and Mercy:
One of the best heart-warming stories about Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) is his visit to the town of Ta’if. This event happened in the tenth year of his mission and shows how much the Prophet (S.A.W) cared for people, even when they treated him badly.
The Journey to Ta’if:
After losing his beloved wife, Khadijah (R.A), and his supportive uncle, Abu Talib, Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) faced more challenges in Mecca. The leaders of Mecca were making life very hard for Muslims. To find a safer place and gain support, the Prophet (S.A.W) decided to visit Ta’if, a town about 60 kilometers away from Mecca.
Ta’if was known for its fertile land and vineyards. The Prophet (S.A.W) hoped that the people of Ta’if would listen to his message and offer him protection. He met with three brothers who were the leaders of the town, but instead of welcoming him, they mocked and insulted him. They did not believe in his message and refused to help him.
The Harsh Treatment:
After the leaders rejected him, they encouraged the people of Ta’if to chase him out of town. As the Prophet (S.A.W) was leaving, a mob, including children, followed him and threw stones at him. The Prophet (S.A.W) was injured, and his feet were bleeding. His companion, Zayd ibn Harithah (R.A), tried to protect him but was also hurt.
Finally, the Prophet (S.A.W) found refuge in a vineyard belonging to two non-Muslim brothers from Mecca. Moved by his suffering, they sent their servant, Addas, with some grapes for him. Despite his pain, the Prophet (S.A.W) did not curse the people of Ta’if. Instead, he prayed to Allah, expressing his sadness and asking for guidance.
The Prophet’s Prayer:
In the vineyard, the Prophet (S.A.W) prayed a heartfelt prayer, asking Allah for help and expressing his trust in Him. He did not ask for revenge but sought Allah’s mercy and guidance. His prayer showed his deep faith and his love for the people, even those who treated him harshly.

After this painful experience, the Angel Jibril (Gabriel) came to the Prophet (S.A.W) with the Angel of the Mountains. The angel offered to crush the people of Ta’if between the mountains if the Prophet (S.A.W) wished. But, instead of seeking revenge, the Prophet (S.A.W) declined the offer. He hoped that one day, the people of Ta’if or their descendants would embrace Islam and worship Allah alone.

Years later, the Prophet’s (S.A.W) hope came true. Many people from Ta’if, including those who had harmed him, accepted Islam and became devoted Muslims. The town that once rejected him became a strong community of believers.
